About Robbie

Robbie Phillips is a professional climber, speaker, coach, and Youtuber from Scotland. He is a true "All Rounder" in climbing, with notorious ascents across all vertical diciplines.

 

Growing up in Edinburgh Robbie was drawn to adventure with tales of Grandfather's career in the Merchant Navy. After finding his passion in climbing at 15 Robbie soon became enveloped in the a vertical world. Robbie was introduced to it through the Duke of Edinburgh award at his school, George Watson’s College in Edinburgh.

From then Robbie joined the youth climbing squad at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena and began competing in national and international competitions in the GB climbing team. Robbie also helped shape the next generation of climbers as the Scottish climbing team Head coach for several years. As well as working as head route setter for competitions internationally.

At the age of 19 Robbie began to heed the call of adventure and transitioned from indoor competition climbing to adventures on real rock. Since then, Robbie has turned his hand to all disciplines of climbing including bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing, winter climbing, and big walling. His lust for adventure and travel has taken him across the globe where he has climbed pretty much every type of rock type in every style.

  • ‘BellaVista’ (8b+) - Multipitch on Tre Cime, Dolomites in Italy

  • ‘Paciencia’ (8a) - Multipitch on the North Face of the Eiger, Switzerland

  • First Briton to complete the ‘Alpine Trilogy’ - 3 multipitches across the Alps

  • First Ascent of ‘Haggisaurus Rex’ (8c) - the hardest climb in Queensland, Australia

  • First Ascent of ‘What we do in the shadows’ (E10 7a) - a traditional climb in Duntelchaig, Scotland

  • Multiple free ascents of El Capitan in Yosemite, California - via ‘Goldengate’ (5.13a), ‘El Nino’ (5.13c), ‘Premuir’ (5.13d)

  • First Ascent of Big Wall ‘Blood Moon’ (8a+/5.13c) in Tsaranora, Madagascar

  • ‘La Junta Project’ a Big Wall first ascent in Cochamo, Chile
